Collective

Our collective was formed on festival fields, at raves, in house parties, on train journeys and in recording studios.

IXCHEL aims to cause a disturbance across the creative industries, and represent the worldwide underground.

The Cru

Cooked up in bedrooms, ballrooms, kitchens and basements - jammed through nicked tapedecks and blasted out of blown, knockoff PA's - heaved into the back of transit vans, sung and passed on by congregations, soundsystems - shaking on the walls of borrowed tents, stamped into streets and floors, washed into walls and alleyways. Pass through fingers in record shops, thumbed. Rhythms, energies stolen then reclaimed, transported, translated, decolonised - families, churches, community centres, clubs, warehouses, stairwells, roofs, fields, forests, parks, basements, beaches, safe spaces, sanctuaries, streets.

Smuggled past police, snuck past sniffer dogs, hopped over fences, ducked under barricades, sent with dummy vans, muscled between airwaves. Songs stolen, traded, reacquired, chopped and screwed. Machines stretched music past the parameters of previous reality. Samples, voices, raves, DJ’s, skankers and cultures weave together and transform each other.

Today algorithms based on ad performance and data-mining are doing the sharing, turning listeners into products - isolating sounds from history and people from one another.

IXCHEL moves to celebrate/reinvigorate the communal, combined histories of modern music — to encourage the transference between genres and cultures, and to encourage face-to-face engagement with the origins and narratives of some of dance music’s most important scenes.
